Dan and dawn share an interview with our good friend Lyn, who is one of the teachers of the
Path of the Qadishti
sacred sexuality program.
Plus, lots more! Is it better to be judged or to judge at a Leather contest? And a different contest – time to win yourself a variety of stuff by just coming up with a name for a certain purple friend (no, we are not using Barney). Congrats to the winners of the OVLA contest! Care to join our family? Stepping down and lots more!

Qadishti
Posted: May 13, 2010 Filed under: Path Of Tthe Qadishti course, Qadishti | Tags: Qadishti, Qadishtu 1 Comment »What is a Qadishti, someone asked recently.
I define it as “a practitioner of sacred sexuality“.
dawn defines it as “a priest or priestess of sacred sexuality“.
Are these the correct definitions? Well, ask the question on the Qadishtu Yahoo group, with its 270 members, and you get a variety of answers. And the blog The Qadishtu Experience provides some examples of what Qadishti do.
The Temple of the Red Lotus trains others in the Qadishtu path as does our own Path of the Qadishti.
Terra Incognita “is dedicated to the eclectic Qadishtu Path of Sacred Sexual celebration. For us this includes BDSM, Paganism, the patron/protege program, polyamory, Sex Magick, sexwork, surrogacy, Tantra and Taoist practices. TI has developed a very flexible neo-Pagan type of ritual to focus energetic group workings, which owes a great deal to Chaos Magick creativity. Our Qadishtu priesthood is Temple-based, in homage to historical precedents and includes educational outreach and various hands-on practices with seekers”.
So, does this give a clear and single answer for the question, What is a Qadishti? Well, I can only say for me, when someone asks, I’ll answer “I define it as a practitioner of sacred sexuality and dawn defines it as a priest or priestess of sacred sexuality”. And then I’ll let it go and get involved in the doing
(Now I’ve trapped myself into defining sacred sexuality, oye!)
The easy answer is ‘the plural of Qadishtu’. ‘Qadishtu’ being female and ‘Qadesh’ male Qadishti.

Inara de Luna
Founder of the Temple of the Red Lotus, Inara is a Qadishtu priestess who believes in the sacredness of sex and pleasure. Inara describes herself as a bisexual, polyamorous, eclectic pagan. A teacher and lifelong practitioner of yoga, she follows a path of finding enlightenment by healing the mind-body-spirit split that occurs in Western society. Ecstatic dance, drumming, sex, yoga, ritual, energy manipulation and healing, research and reflection are the avenues Inara uses and encourages for spiritual expression and development.
Inara runs an online discussion group on sacred sexuality and offers workshops and classes on yoga, breath work, sacred sexuality, teenage sex education, menstruation reclamation, and Native American drumming/singing. She has been a guest instructor for the Indigo Village Summer Camp, and a guest lecturer at the University of Redlands in California and at St. Patrick’s Cathedral School in Pennsylvania. Additionally, she has performed private yoga demonstrations for select audiences around the country. Inara is a published author, with articles and poetry appearing in The Common People magazine, Atlanta Rising magazine and the Carolina Spirit Quest newsletter.
Inara organizes the Village of Greenwood at Dreaming. She also coordinated the Adult Play area at FireDance 2004 and DayDreaming: Greenwood, a day-long sacred sex intensive. Most recently, Inara presented a three course seminar on sacred sexuality at Bio-Buzz in Albany, GA. She created the Temple of the Red Lotus as an organization devoted to promoting and practicing sacred sexuality and the Qadishtu path.

A few weeks back, we set up our Scarlet Sanctuary at an event and opened the door. The idea of the Scarlet Sanctuary, the way we do it, is simple – we provide loving, compassionate, non threatening sensual touch to anyone that wants to experience it. Everyone, regardless of race or age or size or style, is greeted with Qadishti Eyes of acceptance and that Heinlein sense of “Thou Art God/dess”. They are brought inside and intimately led to receive.
(Receiving, we discovered, is very hard for some people. For lots of people. Just to lay there and allow yourself to just be, just receive erotic touch, and not feel like you are supposed to do anything).
As it happened, “Everyone, regardless of…” was tested for me personally at this event, as I found myself working on a ‘Star’. Now, I do not mean TV Star or a Hollywood Star (although she may be in movies). But in this case, she is a star of the erotic circles. Would you have heard of her? Well, if you run in my circles, then yes, but the fact that I knew who she was, and she was one of the first people I ever saw lecture, was threatening to throw me off balance. Both my own sense of awe at working with her and my own ego (look who I am working on) were observed as possibly causing this to be less than sacred.
Until we got started. Once we got started, it was no longer about her as The Star, nor was it about Me the Qadesh Working with the Star, it was just two people. It just a receiver and a giver. She simply was another human, another person, full of sensual love. I was just a giver, allowing my ego to sleep while I ministered to another of the beutiful beings that inhabit the world.
Beyond that, her response and mine, become a matter like many other sessions, but one too private feeling to post here.
The important thing I took away from this experience is not that everyone is just another person. But instead, something that I was told at the very first sacred sexuality event I ever went to was brought to mind and I am reminded – “Everyone is a star”
