Compersion in Polyamory

Compersion

Dan and I were at a polyamory roundtable in Kansas City last night and once again the term โ€˜compersionโ€™ was brought up. Those that have been doing this for years made that hum noise of recognition, while those that were new looked around in confusion. Itโ€™s understandable.

The term โ€œcompersionโ€ was coined in the early 1990s by the Kerista community, a San Francisco-based polyamorous group that has since disbanded. It means to feel joy at your partner’s joy with their other partner. Basically, the opposite of jealousy is how some of us shorthand it.
